When I first heard the expression “The way you start your day is the way you live your day” I was thrilled. What a positive good morning quote!
I finally got what we in Sweden would call “water on my mill weel”. I knew I could transform my mornings and days if I wanted to.
Using a positive good morning quote was a great start!
The “ON switch”
I’d been fighting an old very tiring habit of a “switch” instantly being turned ON as soon as I woke up in the morning. Sometimes I thought I was going mad. I even had to bring it up during one of my own coaching sessions to look at it from different angles.
The ON switch was my performance anxiety.
No matter what lay ahead of me, it instantly raised my pulse, got my head spinning of all the things I had to do and got me running out of bed to fix all the matters that needed to be fixed. Packing for day care, school, driving to work, working, driving back, grocery shopping, pick-ups, cooking, cleaning, washing the dishes, etc etc.
No wonder I needed to do something about it.
First of all I got out of the corporate world. That just had to happen.
Then I started noticing the switch every morning and telling myself that it was no longer wanted or needed. “The way you start your day is the way you live your day.”
It’s a matter of training your mind to have the right attitude!
Eventually I could actually wake up certain mornings without it instantly turning to ON.
What a relief! I had the mindset going.
Key factor here is creating awareness, isn’t it? You need to become aware of your “bad habits” no matter their nature. That’s always the start before you can move into change.
I coach a lot of people in different areas of their lives. Weight-loss and stress are BIG areas.
And awareness is always KEY.
KEY to changing mindsets and attitudes, and eventually behaviors.
So after I’d done something about my ON-switch I could move into creating the atmosphere I wanted in the mornings. I wasn’t stressed and running around like crazy anymore.
Kind of tricky, though, if you have dear family members who are by choice a bit grumpy that time of day. But that’s a matter of choice too, and in order to change it: create awareness.
So I started joking around with the most tired ones at home. In a subtle way of course, not to cause any tantrums. (Love you guys! ❤) Pointing their behavior out saying: “It’s ok to be tired. It’s OK. But you don’t have to be grumpy. I won’t have it.”
My breakfast routine
I found my most valuable breakfast routine too. The one with the berries, natural yoghurt and homemade granola. A homemade healthy muffin and nice cup of coffee.
All accompanied by two big glasses of water. (Sorry to be so posh again. But if you’re interested I’ll let you in on my nutrition routines in another post.)
Having worked for ages in the weight-loss business I know what’s right and wrong for most human beings when it comes to fueling up your energy. Don’t argue with me on this one. 😉
A final word
Now I’m at a stage where I look forward to waking up and setting my day. Every day.
I can’t wait to meditate with my favorite app Headspace for 10 minutes in bed.
And then getting my perfect breakfast atmosphere. In the winter there are lit candles in the kitchen. In the summer, it’s all happening outside in the morning sun.
When starting off like this, I’m full of energy and motivation to take on my day. Without exception. I’m productive, focused and highly motivated.
I have faith in that I’ve given myself the best possible circumstances to create a great day!
